LeafGuard FAQs

LeafGuard® gutters are the best gutter guards in South Carolina. However, there are many other gutter systems claiming that title, making it even more difficult for you to choose the right product. The difference is that we have proof. Keep reading to see.

How does the Englert LeafGuard gutter work?

LeafGuard’s unique one-piece hood design utilizes the principle of Molecular Attraction which causes rainwater to cling to the gutter hood and fall into the gutter trough. The narrow opening between the hood and bottom keeps debris out.

Why is LeafGuard’s one-piece construction important?

The LeafGuard Brand one-piece gutter system attaches to your fascia board, not under your shingles, thus never voiding your roof warranty. Also its protective baffle eliminates the possibility of debris entering the gutter from behind – a common problem with multi-piece gutters and leaf-shedding covers.

How sturdy is the Englert LeafGuard seamless gutter?

The LeafGuard Brand gutter system uses .032 gauge aluminum, which is approximately 20% thicker than conventional gutters. It is also attached to the fascia board approximately every 2 feet with internal hanging brackets, unlike conventional gutters that are attached with spikes that can come loose.

What is Englert LeafGuard constructed of?

Englert LeafGuard is a seamless, one-piece aluminum gutter. It will never rust or deteriorate like some galvanized steel gutters.

Will a LeafGuard gutter handle a heavy rain or downpour?

What is an ice dam?

Ice dams form when snow or ice melt on a roof over a heated or partially heated attic space. The melting water that results may re-freeze over an unheated area such as a roof overhang. This re- frozen water can create a blockage or dam, forcing additional melt water to back up under shingles or re-freeze on colder surfaces like overhangs, gutters and gutter covers, causing leaks or icicles.

What causes ice dams?

Several factors contribute to the forming of ice dams on a roof. The primary cause however is poor attic insulation and ventilation. This causes ice and snow to melt as a result of heat radiating from underneath the roof and then freezing again once the run-off water reaches a colder surface area i.e. an overhang, a gutter cover or a leaf protection system. This process can lead to the forming of icicles on these surfaces. To learn more about what causes ice dams and icicles you can read Energy Star’s ice dams article or the University of Minnesota study and report on ice dams.

Will LeafGuard prevent ice dams or icicles from forming?

LeafGuard will neither prevent nor cause the ice dams that can create icicles. However, LeafGuard’s patented one piece hooded system does eliminate the possibility of ice accumulation that can occur inside regular gutters, causing gutter hangers to loosen and gutters to break away from the house. No gutter protection system will effectively eliminate ice dams or prevent icicles from forming.

How can I prevent ice dams and icicles?

Several suggestions can lead to minimizing or eliminating the possibility of ice dams and icicles. First of which, is to insure that your house has proper roof ventilation and insulation. If warm air is escaping from inside your home and heating your roof, there is a very good chance that ice dams and icicles may form. Second, there are a variety of products such as heating cables designed to minimize the forming of icicles. We recommend that you educate yourself on the various heating options available and then choose a reputable electrician and contractor to install the product you select.
